Philadelphia was expected to be one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball this season. The Phillies are a game below .500 and have been out-scored by 49 runs this season, but to date they have certainly exceeded expectations.

The Cubs are on the opposite end of the spectrum. Chicago could be MLB’s first 40-win team on the season with a victory tonight as they look to improve upon an already impressive 17-8 road record through 25 games.

The Chicago Cubs look like the best team in the game but they know they can’t afford to let their guard down in a top heavy NL Central. The Cubs and ace Jake Arrieta proved to be mortal in Sunday’s 3-2 loss to visiting Arizona that prevented the series sweep. Arrieta was charged with all three runs on nine hits while whiffing 12 to fall to 9-1. The Cubbies struggled against Patrick Corbin with five hits and a pair of free passes with Javier Baez going solo while Arrieta doubled in Miguel Montero. Left hander Jon Lester gets the nod to open the series on the mound at Philadelphia. Lester is coming off one of his best efforts of the season last time out with a complete game 2-1 win versus the Dodgers
The Philadelphia Phillies are a team that needs both their arms and bats on the same page to succeed. The Phillies have been struggling but pulled out a series win following an 8-1 victory versus visiting Milwaukee although they have still dropped eight of eleven. Phils starter Aaron Nola improved to 5-4 with six scoreless frames while recording nine K’s. Philadelphia pounded out nine hits and walked twice with Maikel Franco going deep and scoring twice with Cameron Rupp going solo while Jimmy Paredes homered and drove in three. The Phillies go with Adam Morgan on the hill who faces the Cubs for the second time in 2016. Morgan has struggled the past two times out with 12 runs allowed on 12 hits including five homers over ten innings.
