DTs Johnathan Hankins, Clinton McDonald sign with Raiders

The Oakland Raiders got no push up front against the Los Angeles Rams, but they added Johnathan Hankins and Clinton McDonald on Wednesday.

During the Oakland Raiders 33-13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night, the team got absolutely no push up front. In fact, they had only five pressures throughout the game, led by rookie Arden Key, who had two.

In addition, the team saw two of their defensive tackles go down due to injury, and one, PJ Hall, is in a walking boot today (Wednesday). The other, Justin Ellis, could also be out for some time, so it made sense that the team would bring in some reinforcements ahead of an AFC West showdown with the Denver Broncos.

After four years in New York, Hankins was actually given a monster contract by the Indianapolis Colts. They cut him this past March, and he had not gotten an opportunity this summer, but will get exactly that as the Raiders continue to add and subtract to this roster heading into Week 2.

McDonald began his career in Cincinnati, before making stops in Seattle, Tampa Bay, and most recently, Denver. He has notched five or more sacks three times, giving the Raiders another solid presence in the middle of their defensive line.

Hankins and McDonald are solid additions to the roster, though them coming in could mean an IR stint for Ellis or Hall. The Raiders have a tall task on deck in the Denver Broncos this weekend, and you have to think Hankins and McDonald are going to contribute in some way on Sunday afternoon.

Hankins was a second-round pick by the Giants in the 2013 NFL draft. He has been a four-year starter, appearing in 67 games and recording 184 tackles along with 12 sacks and three forced fumbles.

McDonald last season with the Buccaneers, he had 29 tackles and five sacks in 14 games (three starts). He has 19 sacks in eight seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay. The Bengals selected him in the seventh round of the 2009 draft.
