Tonight’s game at Waldo Stadium features a pair of teams that are unbeaten in conference play and leading their respective division.
One difference is Bowling Green has been in a familiar position the last two seasons while Western Michigan is atop the west division this late in the season for the first time in more than a decade.
The Falcons (7-2, 5-0 MAC) are on a roll having won six straight games, including five against MAC opponents. Bowling Green’s latest victim was the Ohio Bobcats, whom they dismantled 62-24 at home last week. Matt Johnson poured it on for the Falcons, connecting on 26 of his 35 passes for 365 yards and four touchdowns. Travis Green rolled over the Bobcats defense (13 car, 106 yards and 3 TD), while the duo of Gehrig Dieter (9 rec, 136 yards, 2 TD) and Roger Lewis (6 rec, 102 yards, TD) shined for the Falcons. Ohio did make it competitive early, tying the game at 14 early in the second quarter, but Bowling Green exploded from that point on, outscoring the Bobcats 48-10.
The Broncos (6-3, 5-0 MAC) are the other undefeated squad in conference play, having won five straight conference games. Western Michigan put a 50-spot on a team for the second straight week as the Broncos blew out Ball Sate 54-7 at home. The trio of Zach Terrell (16-of-22, 324 yards, 3 TD), Jamauri Bogan (18 car, 171 yards, 2 TD) and Corey Davis (7 rec, 163 yards, 3 TD) were unstoppable as they helped the Broncos record a school-record 711 yards of total offense. Western Michigan scored 40 unanswered points until the Cardinals notched their first score with 3:02 left in the third quarter. The Bronco defense also put up a solid effort, limiting the Cardinals to just 152 yards of total offense, which was the first time the Broncos have held a team under 200 yards since 2011 and the lowest total overall since 2007, when they held Temple to 146.
Bowling Green and Western Michigan will square off for the 53rd time Wednesday night with the Falcons leading the all-time series 38-18-3. The Broncos have won the last four meetings and nine of the last 12.
The Falcons are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. win and are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall while the Falcons are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 conference games. The over is 5-0-1 in Broncos last 6 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game and the Broncos are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game while going 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game. The Falcons are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 meetings and the under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings while the road team is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings.
