Ravens’ Lamar Jackson working out with Antonio Brown

Last year, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson drew attention for his offseason work with teammates Willie Snead IV and Chris Moore.

On Wednesday, his company was a little more famous.

In an afternoon session in Fort Lauderdale, Florida — county seat of his native Broward County — the NFL’s reigning Most Valuable Player worked out alongside Ravens wide receiver and close pal Marquise “Hollywood” Brown; Alabama wide receiver and future first-round pick Jerry Jeudy, another Broward County native; and, most notably, former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, a cousin of the Ravens’ Brown.

Responding to a tweet Wednesday showing Antonio Brown catching passes from Jackson, the Ravens star tagged the six-time All-Pro wide receiver and stated that they would do it again.

Brown, 31, a free agent, missed most of last campaign after two ugly departures.

The Oakland Raiders, who voided the guaranteed money in his contract after Brown missed nearly all of training camp, cut him in early September when he requested to be released.

After quickly signing with the New England Patriots, Brown was named in a lawsuit by his former trainer, who alleged that he had sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. Less than a week later, another woman accused him of sexual misconduct.

The Patriots cut Brown after just one game, and the NFL started an investigation into the allegations against him.

Even amid the coronavirus pandemic, Brown and Jackson have been active this week. On Tuesday, Brown appeared in social media posts alongside former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson and Antonio Brown at his cousin’s Florida gym. On Wednesday, both Brown cousins and Jackson worked out on a football field in what Jeudy told “The Rich Eisen Show” was Fort Lauderdale.

It could be their last public workout for a while. On Wednesday afternoon, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued a statewide stay-at-home order to help curb the spread of COVID-19. The order will go into effect at midnight Thursday and last for at least 30 days.

Ravens set record for rushing yards in season

The Ravens ran their way into the record book Sunday.

Baltimore set the NFL single 16-game-season team rushing record, breaking a mark that had stood for 41 years. The 1978 New England Patriots rushed for 3,165 yards, during an era when running the football was much more prevalent.

Baltimore needed 93 yards Sunday to set the record, and players and coaches entered the match aware that the mark was within reach.

Running back Gus Edwards set the tone, exploding for a 38-yard run late in the first quarter, and Baltimore ended the first quarter with 89 yards rushing, just four yards short of the record. Then early in the second quarter, Edwards broke the record on a 9-yard rumble up the middle.

In today’s NFL, a team rushing for over 3,000 yards in a season is unheard of Nobody had come close to the Patriots’ record in the years since.

Baltimore’s rushing attack and the innovative schemes used by Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman are also unique.

The Ravens had two players who rushed for over 1,000 yards, Lamar Jackson and Mark Ingram II. Jackson set the NFL single-season rushing record for a quarterback (1,206 yards), running behind an offensive line that featured two Pro Bowlers in left tackle Ronnie Stanley and right guard Marshal Yanda.

The Ravens also have a Pro Bowl fullback (Patrick Ricard) and one of the league’s best blocking tight ends in Nick Boyle.

Jackson, Ingram, Stanley and Yanda were all inactive versus the Steelers on Sunday, but Baltimore’s rushing attack kept rolling. Sunday was the latest example of why Baltimore’s rushing attack is one for the ages, and the best in the NFL by a wide margin.

The Ravens entered Sunday’s match averaging 204.9 yards rushing, more than 59 yards ahead of the next best team, the San Francisco 49ers.

Ravens QB Lamar Jackson breaks Michael Vick´s single season rushing yards record

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson just broke the NFL’s all-time season rushing record for a quarterback, set by Michael Vick back in 2006.

Jackson entered Thursday’s game versus the New York Jets with 1,017 rushing yards — 22 behind Vick’s total of 1,039. Vick achieved his total with fewer attempts (but in more games) that season than Jackson had had in 2019.

Jackson — wearing white sleeves and a white glove — reached the 1,000-yard mark last week versus the Buffalo Bills, joining Vick as the only other QB to reach quadruple digits on the ground in a single season.

Then Jackson broke Vick’s all-time mark with a five-yard red-zone run in the first quarter versus the Jets that set up a Mark Ingram touchdown run on the next play.

Vick’s mark was once thought to be unbreakable in a passing-heavy era where running quarterbacks sometimes have been asked to throw more and run less. But with the Ravens, Jackson has been given carte blanche to run and throw with a scheme that perfectly accentuates his skills.

And it’s a big reason why Jackson appears to be one of the runaway MVP favorites in December.

With three more games left, Jackson could even approach the 1,300-yard mark with a few more big performances with his legs and land somewhere in the league’s top 10 rushers this season.

Vick achieved his record — breaking Bobby Douglass’ mark of 968, set in 1972 — with a mere 123 rushes in 16 games back in 2016. It took Jackson 154 carries to earn the season record, but he did so in the Ravens’ 14th game of this season.

Jackson still has some work to do to catch Vick’s career rushing total of 6,109 yards on the ground. Jackson is less than one-third of the way toward that mark. But through 30 NFL games (21 starts), Jackson is averaging close to 60 rush yards per game.

Ravens’ Lamar Jackson 1st QB since Michael Vick to run for 100 yards in the first half

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson takes running the ball to another level when he plays the Cincinnati Bengals.

Jackson turn out to be the first quarterback in 13 years to gain over 100 yards rushing in the first half Sunday, when he produced 111 against the Bengals.

This is the first time that a quarterback accomplished this since Michael Vick had 127 yards rushing in the first half on Nov. 26, 2006. This is the only occasion of a quarterback rushing for 100 yards in the first half of a game since at least 1991, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Lamar Jackson became the first quarterback since Michael Vick in 2006 to run for 100 yards in the first half of a game.

In his only other meeting against the Bengals, Jackson became the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era to record at least 100 rushing yards in his first career start.

On Sunday, Jackson darted around the Bengals for 71 yards on Baltimore’s opening drive, capping that first series with a 21-yard touchdown run.

Many of Jackson’s runs came off the run-option and weren’t designed ones Jackson cracked 100 yards on a 29-yard scramble that ended the first half. He averaged 12.3 yards on nine runs.

The Bengals entered Sunday’s game with the second-worst run defense in the NFL. Cincinnati is allowing 167.6 yards rushing per game.

Last Sunday, Jackson tied the NFL record for the fastest quarterback to get 1,000 yards rushing for a career. He and teammate Robert Griffin III each eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing in 21 games.

Through Week 5, Jackson led all quarterbacks in rushing with 308 yards. That’s 100 more than any other quarterback.

This marked Jackson’s third 100-yard rushing game of his career. He gained 120 yards rushing against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2 this season, and he totaled 119 yards rushing last season against the Bengals in his first career start.

Jackson has also shown off his arm this year. On Sunday he also turn out to be the fourth quarterback in last 15 seasons to produce 150 yards passing and 100 yards rushing in a half.
