The Islanders look for their sixth win on home ice on Monday night as they welcome the Arizona Coyotes to the Barclay’s Center.

The Arizona Coyotes are hoping to spoil the party in Brooklyn on Monday night as the league’s overachievers head into New York to battle the Islanders as they search for their tenth victory of the season. The Coyotes are coming off a loss but still sit in second place in the pacific division thanks to a lackluster start from the majority of its inhabitants and with a win on Monday the desert dogs can move to within a single point of the Kings for top spot. Arizona will likely go with Mike Smith here as the Isles will counter with Jaroslav Halak in a game that currently has the home side as a pretty heavy favourite.

The Islanders meanwhile come into Monday’s action sitting in fourth place in the Atlantic division and will be looking to climb the ladder with a statement win at home. New York is coming off a win but a 4-4-2 stretch in their last 10 contests has them nine points back of the Rangers for top spot in the Metro and currently on the outside of a playoff spot, though there is still a ton of hockey left to be played. New York is in the top half in terms of goals scored this season and if they can ramp it up and get continued production out of Halak I think the Isles will turn their fortunes around and get back into contention for the division title and that starts tonight with a home ice win against the Coyotes.

Special teams play has the New York Islanders ascending toward the top of the Metropolitan Division. With a potent power play and a stingy penalty kill among the league’s top five in both categories, the Islanders vie for their seventh win in eight outings on Thursday when they host the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Carolina Hurricanes will be looking to extend their winning streak to three games when they visit the Barclays Center Thursday and are 7th in  the conference. Frans Nielsen paced the New York attack with a pair of tallies while Cal Clutterbuck and Mikhail Grabovski also found the back of the net.
