When: Saturday, Nov. 14 at 10 p.m. ET
Long-dominant women’s bantamweight championRonda Rousey (12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) looks for her seventh consecutive title defense when she takes on former boxing champion and undefeated MMA contender Holly Holm (9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC). Rousey, a hefty 16-1 favorite heading into Saturday’s fight, is ranked No. 1 in the NOS Energy Drink MMA women’s bantamweight rankings, and Holm is No. 9
Rousey is 12-0-0 and her last fight — a TKO over Bethe Correia on Aug. 1 — lasted just 34 seconds. The much-anticipated Rousey-Holm bout will be held at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia
A crowd of over 60,000 is predicted to turn out for the occasion and Rousey admits if she’s ever going to break the record, it’s in Melbourne.
“I’m very conscious of it,” Rousey told foxsports.com.au of the attendance record.
“It’s an ambitious goal but Australia’s the perfect place to try and do that. The people have a real appreciation for fighting that is unrivalled. They have the ability to come and show their support for a historic event.”
Both women are undefeated in their MMA careers, which has rocketed Rousey to superstardom and made Holm a credible opponent to Rousey’s dominant reign at the top. This will be a classic grappler vs. striker match, which should it make it interesting.
The co-headliner is a UFC strawweight championship bout, as queen of the division Joanna Jedrzejczyk meets up with contender Valerie Letourneau. Letourneau skyrocketed up the rankings and surprisingly snatched this title shot against the Polish champion. Jedrzejczyk is undefeated and has looked nothing short of spectacular thus far in her UFC career.
The card also features a rematch of a barnburner from not long ago when Mark Hunt takes on Antonio Silva. Then you have names like Robert Whittaker, Uriah Hall and Stefan Struve. It looks to be an exciting night that will go down in the books as one of the best in 2015.
